Last Friday, Terence Crutcher, a 40-year-old unarmed African-American man, was shot by a Tulsa, Oklahoma, police officer named Betty Shelby. Crutcher, was first tasered and then shot dead in Tulsa, Oklahoma after police arrived at the scene of his broken down SUV vehicle at around 8pm on Friday.
Police had claimed that Crutcher was reaching inside his car without his hands up. But footage released by Tulsa Police Department clearly shows the pastor with his hands in the air and his back to the officers.
In footage taken from a police helicopter, an officer can be heard saying:
“He’s got his hands up there for her now…This guy is still walking and following commands.”But Crutcher was then tasered and shot.
Tiffany Crutcher, Terence twin sister described her brother as a family man who sang in church every Sunday. "That big bad dude" as acclaimed by the officers was my twin brother. That big bad dude was a father. That big bad dude was a son. That big bad dude was enrolled at Tulsa Community College just wanting to make us proud. That big bad dude loved God. That big bad dude was at church singing with all of his flaws, every week, that big bad dude. That's who he was," Tiffany said.
"We just celebrated our 40th birthday, August 16th a month ago. And I have his text message and it said 'I'm gonna show you. I'm gonna make you all proud.' And now he'll never get that chance because of the negligence and the incompetency and the insensitivity and because he was a 'big bad dude' he'll never get that chance and so we're demanding today immediately that charges are pressed against this officer that was incompetent, that took my brother's life," she continued.
Russell Moore, president of the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention, the largest Protestant denomination in the United States, expressed his sorrow and concern about the incident.
"I'm afraid that the American people are almost becoming numb to these situations and we have here another life lost," Moore said. "Another community left traumatized. And I think many people are asking how much longer can this situation persist this way. And so, I think we've seen the country is watching the video right now it's, what can one say, except that it ought to leave us heartsick." Russell said.
Chief Jordan assured the nation on Monday concerning the shooting that, "we will achieve justice."
"I want to assure our community, and I want to assure all of you and people across the nation who are going to be looking at this, we will achieve justice, period," Jordan said.
The videos of Terence Crutcher's death he said are "very disturbing" and "very difficult to watch." Watch Video here
Whether black, white, brown...... We are all one before God. Jesus already commanded us to Love our neighbour as ourselves knowing that the end time would be filled with hatred.
